If you’ve ever tried to cut thick glass, you know the struggle. You need that perfect heat gradient to stop the glass from stressing out and shattering. If you take a preheater built for 110V and plug it into a 480V industrial line, it’s gone. Poof. Burned out instantly.
Dealing with the Voltage Mess (110V, 480V, 575V)
We don’t believe in forcing you to use massive, clunky step-down transformers that eat up your precious floor space. Instead, we build our lamps to match whatever grid you’re actually using. In North American plants, you’re usually looking at 480V or 575V three-phase power. We wind the filaments specifically for those higher voltages. It’s all about the balance between voltage and internal resistance to get the wattage you need. If you’re tackling glass thicker than 20mm, you need high heat density, so we spec the lamps for higher wattage. But a word of caution: running high-wattage lamps at 575V getshot. I mean really hot—especially at the terminals. Double-check your wiring gauge and connectors. If they aren’t rated for the current, you’re going to melt your housing.
How They’re Built
We use high-purity quartz envelopes for our lamps. Why? Because they let shortwave radiation fly straight through without losing steam, hitting the glass surface exactly where it needs to. Plus, we can customize the lengths and connectors. We want these to be simple drop-in replacements for the frames you already have. No hacking, no stressing.
The Real-World Stuff
Customizing the voltage for your region means you can ditch the external converters. It makes your control panel way cleaner. But there is a trade-off. Higher voltage means a higher risk of electrical arcing if the lamp isn’t seated perfectly in the socket. Get into a habit of checking your contact points for oxidation. If a connection is loose, heat builds up right at the pin. That’s a fast track to killing your lamp way before its time. Keep it tight, keep it clean, and it’ll keep working.
