The trick to preheating glass
If you’ve done this long enough, you know that managing thermal stress is a balancing act. We use high-density short-wave IR radiation because it hits the glass fast. You aren’t sitting around waiting for the air to warm up; the heat just goes straight in. But here’s the catch: if your voltage and wattage aren’t a perfect match for the tube length, you’ll get cold spots. And cold spots are a nightmare. They cause uneven expansion, and before you know it, you’re staring at a shattered sheet of glass.
