Or worse, you hear that dreaded pop and see a crack in the glass. It usually comes down to two things: moisture and thermal shock. They’re basically the natural enemies of infrared heat. The battle against condensation Here is the thing about water on a heating element. It doesn’t just cause a short circuit. It creates these tiny “cold spots” on the quartz tube. When you’ve got one part of the glass screaming hot and another part chilled by a water droplet, the glass gives up and cracks. It’s simple physics, and it’s a nightmare. Because when water beads up on the lamp, it blocks the heat. Keeping the rain out We don’t just throw a cover over the unit and call it a day. We use heavy-duty gaskets and reinforced seals everywhere a wire enters the chassis. It might seem like a small detail, but it’s everything. If rain or spray hits those electrical terminals, you get corrosion. That corrosion creates resistance, which creates heat in the wrong places, and eventually, your connection just burns out. The honest trade-off Now, look—nothing is perfect. Adding all these seals and protective housings makes the heater a bit bulkier. It also traps a little more heat around the internal electronics than you’d find in a wide-open industrial heater. Because of that, you’ll want to make sure your mounting brackets have some breathing room. Give the control board a bit of airflow, and it’ll stay happy.
