
Making Bathroom Heaters That Won’t Blind You
When we design infrared lamps for bathrooms, we have to remember one big thing: people are standing right under them. It’s not like an industrial warehouse. You’ve got people—and often babies with really sensitive eyes—just inches away from the heat. The real trick isn’t just making it hot. It’s making sure the light doesn’t hurt. The light problem Most standard infrared lamps have this harsh, blinding glare. It’s annoying at best and stressful on the eyes at worst. To fix that, we use a special filter or a coated quartz envelope. Basically, we strip away the UV and the high-frequency light that causes that retinal strain. What’s left is a soft, dimmed glow. You still get all that cozy warmth on your skin, but you don’t feel like you’re staring into a spotlight. Getting the heat right We run these on a standard 220V-240V circuit. The goal is to get the room warm fast, but without turning the actual fixture into an oven. We chose a specific type of quartz glass because it lets the heat pass right through. Since the heat isn’t getting trapped in the glass, the bulb is way less likely to crack when it heats up and cools down quickly. It just lasts longer. A few things to keep in mind These are designed to be drop-in replacements, so the connectors are standard. Easy. But here’s the thing: because we filter out that harsh light, these aren’t quite as “aggressive” as those industrial lamps you see in factories. If you’re putting these in a room with massive, high ceilings, you’ll notice the heat drops off faster. You might want to mount the fixture a bit lower to keep that “toasty” feeling. Also, just make sure your bathroom vents are working. If the heat builds up too much in one spot, you might get some condensation on the lens. Keep the air moving, and you’re golden.
