Ever turned on a bathroom heater and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? It’s a common problem. Those standard short-wave infrared lamps are great at pumping out heat, but the glare is brutal. It’s blinding. And if you’re using one to warm up a baby, that kind of intense light is just too much for those sensitive little eyes. We figured out a better way to handle this. Taming the Light Most quartz lamps are just “wide open”—they throw out a huge range of light and heat all at once. To fix that, we messed around with the filament and the gas pressure inside the bulb. The goal was simple: keep the heat, lose the glare. Now, you get that deep, rapid warmth that dries out a damp bathroom in minutes, but without that harsh, white light stabbing you in the eyes. The Secret is in the Coating We don’t just stop at the bulb. We use mirror-finish reflectors to push all that IR energy straight down where you actually need it. Then, we add a special coating to the quartz tube. Think of it as a filter. It doesn’t black out the light completely—you’ll still see a soft, warm glow—but it knocks down the intensity. No more blinking or squinting every time you flip the switch. Getting the Setup Right There’s a bit of a balancing act when it comes to the actual install. First, you need a steady power supply. Nobody wants a flickering light in their bathroom; it’s distracting and just feels cheap. Then there’s the heat. Most bulbs run between 250W and 600W. If you jam too many of them into a tiny ceiling fixture, the whole housing is going to bake. To stop that, we use high-temp wiring and make sure the reflectors are polished to a mirror shine. It’s all about efficiency. We want the heat hitting you, not getting absorbed by your ceiling.
