Putting infrared heaters in a bathroom is a bit of a gamble if you aren’t careful. You’ve got steam everywhere and water splashing around. In a place like that, a basic heating element is basically a disaster waiting to happen. You need a setup that keeps the electricity where it belongs and stops moisture from causing a short circuit. The trick to IP65 sealing When we talk about an IP65 rating, we’re really just talking about keeping dust and water jets out. For these lamps, the “danger zone” is always where the quartz tube meets the electrical lead. To fix this, we use silicone gaskets and epoxy potting right at the seal points. It creates a solid wall. When water hits the lamp, it just beads up and slides off the glass instead of sneaking into the wiring. Simple, but it works. Dealing with the electricity Safety in a wet room comes down to how well the live parts are isolated. We use reinforced insulation layers so there’s a total gap between the live filament and the grounded housing. We also push these units to their limit to check for leakage current. The goal? A heater you can just drop in without worrying that your RCD will trip the second someone turns on the shower. The catch with sealed systems Here’s the thing: when you seal a lamp this tightly, it changes how it handles heat. Those gaskets and potting compounds that keep the water out can actually trap heat around the terminals. You have to make sure your fixture has some breathing room. If you cram a high-wattage lamp into a tiny, airtight box, you’re basically baking your own wires. Over time, that’ll kill the unit. Just make sure you use a proper ground and the right IP-rated connectors. Do that, and you can stop worrying about shocks in the shower.
